Synopsis

Arbitrary code may be run on the remote server.

Description

The remote Samba server, according to its version number, is vulnerable to a remote buffer overflow when receiving specially crafted SMB fragment packets.

An attacker needs to be able to access at least one share to exploit this flaw.

In addition, it is reported that Samba contains a flaw related to the handling of .reg files that may allow a local user to overwrite arbitrary file.

How to Run


Here is how to run the Samba < 2.2.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select Gain a shell remotely plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select Samba < 2.2.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities plugin ID 11398.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.
