Synopsis

The mail server application on the remote Windows host is affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The Microsoft Exchange install on the remote host contains an unspecified flaw that allows an authenticated, man-in-the-middle attacker to impersonate another user and escalate privileges.

Solution

Delete the following registry value :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\DisableLoopbackCheck

as shown in the advisory.

How to Run


Here is how to run the Microsoft Exchange Server Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (November 2018) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select Windows plugin family.

  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
