Synopsis

The remote SUSE host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote SUSE Linux SLES15 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the SUSE-SU-2022:0263-1 advisory.

- A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel where refcount leak in llcp_sock_bind() causing use-after-free which might lead to privilege escalations. (CVE-2020-25670)

- A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel, where a refcount leak in llcp_sock_connect() causing use-after- free which might lead to privilege escalations. (CVE-2020-25671)

- A memory leak vulnerability was found in Linux kernel in llcp_sock_connect (CVE-2020-25672)

- A vulnerability was found in Linux kernel where non-blocking socket in llcp_sock_connect() leads to leak and eventually hanging-up the system. (CVE-2020-25673)

- u'Specifically timed and handcrafted traffic can cause internal errors in a WLAN device that lead to improper layer 2 Wi-Fi encryption with a consequent possibility of information disclosure over the air for a discrete set of traffic' in Snapdragon Auto, Snapdragon Compute, Snapdragon Connectivity, Snapdragon Consumer IOT, Snapdragon Industrial IOT, Snapdragon Mobile, Snapdragon Voice & Music, Snapdragon Wearables, Snapdragon Wired Infrastructure and Networking in APQ8053, IPQ4019, IPQ8064, MSM8909W, MSM8996AU, QCA9531, QCN5502, QCS405, SDX20, SM6150, SM7150 (CVE-2020-3702)

- Use After Free vulnerability in nfc sockets in the Linux Kernel before 5.12.4 allows local attackers to elevate their privileges. In typical configurations, the issue can only be triggered by a privileged local user with the CAP_NET_RAW capability. (CVE-2021-23134)

- The firewire subsystem in the Linux kernel through 5.14.13 has a buffer overflow related to drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-avc.c and drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-ci.c, because avc_ca_pmt mishandles bounds checking. (CVE-2021-42739)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected kernel-livepatch-4_12_14-197_83-default package.

How to Run

Here is how to run the SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel (Live Patch 22 for SLE 15 SP1) (SUSE-SU-2022:0263-1) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select SuSE Local Security Checks plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel (Live Patch 22 for SLE 15 SP1) (SUSE-SU-2022:0263-1) plugin ID 157308.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.

Here are a few examples of how to run the plugin in the command line. Note that the examples below demonstrate the usage on the Linux / Unix platform.

Basic usage:

/opt/nessus/bin/nasl suse_SU-2022-0263-1.nasl -t <IP/HOST>

Run the plugin with audit trail message on the console:

/opt/nessus/bin/nasl -a suse_SU-2022-0263-1.nasl -t <IP/HOST>

Run the plugin with trace script execution written to the console (useful for debugging):

/opt/nessus/bin/nasl -T - suse_SU-2022-0263-1.nasl -t <IP/HOST>

Run the plugin with using a state file for the target and updating it (useful for running multiple plugins on the target):

/opt/nessus/bin/nasl -K /tmp/state suse_SU-2022-0263-1.nasl -t <IP/HOST>
