Synopsis

The remote AlmaLinux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote AlmaLinux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALSA-2021:4647 advisory.

- A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A corrupted timer tree caused the task wakeup to be missing in the timerqueue_add function in lib/timerqueue.c. This flaw allows a local attacker with special user privileges to cause a denial of service, slowing and eventually stopping the system while running OSP. (CVE-2021-20317)

- An issue was discovered in net/tipc/crypto.c in the Linux kernel before 5.14.16. The Transparent Inter- Process Communication (TIPC) functionality allows remote attackers to exploit insufficient validation of user-supplied sizes for the MSG_CRYPTO message type. (CVE-2021-43267)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

How to Run


Here is how to run the AlmaLinux 8 : kernel (ALSA-2021:4647) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select Alma Linux Local Security Checks plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select AlmaLinux 8 : kernel (ALSA-2021:4647) plugin ID 157670.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.
