Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2022:0819 advisory.

- kernel: Use After Free in unix_gc() which could result in a local privilege escalation (CVE-2021-0920)

- kernel: local privilege escalation by exploiting the fsconfig syscall parameter leads to container breakout (CVE-2021-4154)

- kernel: possible privileges escalation due to missing TLB flush (CVE-2022-0330)

- kernel: remote stack overflow via kernel panic on systems using TIPC may lead to DoS (CVE-2022-0435)

- kernel: cgroups v1 release_agent feature may allow privilege escalation (CVE-2022-0492)

- kernel: improper initialization of the flags member of the new pipe_buffer (CVE-2022-0847)

- kernel: failing usercopy allows for use-after-free exploitation (CVE-2022-22942)

How to Run


Here is how to run the RHEL 8 : kernel-rt (RHSA-2022:0819) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select Red Hat Local Security Checks plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select RHEL 8 : kernel-rt (RHSA-2022:0819) plugin ID 158808.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.

Here are a few examples of how to run the plugin in the command line. Note that the examples below demonstrate the usage on the Linux / Unix platform.

Basic usage:

/opt/nessus/bin/nasl redhat-RHSA-2022-0819.nasl -t <IP/HOST>

Run the plugin with audit trail message on the console:
