Synopsis

The remote CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote CentOS Linux 7 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the CESA-2022:0850 advisory.

- thunderbird: Crafted email could trigger an out-of-bounds write (CVE-2022-0566)

- expat: Malformed 2- and 3-byte UTF-8 sequences can lead to arbitrary code execution (CVE-2022-25235)

- expat: Namespace-separator characters in xmlns[:prefix] attribute values can lead to arbitrary code execution (CVE-2022-25236)

- expat: Integer overflow in storeRawNames() (CVE-2022-25315)

- Mozilla: Use-after-free in text reflows (CVE-2022-26381)

- Mozilla: Browser window spoof using fullscreen mode (CVE-2022-26383)

- Mozilla: iframe allow-scripts sandbox bypass (CVE-2022-26384)

How to Run


Here is how to run the CentOS 7 : thunderbird (CESA-2022:0850) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select CentOS Local Security Checks plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select CentOS 7 : thunderbird (CESA-2022:0850) plugin ID 159320.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.

Here are a few examples of how to run the plugin in the command line. Note that the examples below demonstrate the usage on the Linux / Unix platform.
