Synopsis

Remote DNS server is vulnerable to spoofing attacks.

Description

The remote host has the Windows DNS server installed.

There is a flaw in the remote version of this server that could allow an attacker to spoof DNS responses. By exploiting this flaw, an attacker may be able to redirect legitimate traffic from other systems that could allow him to construct more complex attacks.

Microsoft has released patches for Windows 2000 and 2003 Server.

How to Run


Here is how to run the MS07-062: Vulnerability in DNS Could Allow Spoofing (941672) as a standalone plugin via the Nessus web user interface (https://localhost:8834/):

  1. Click to start a New Scan.
  2. Select Advanced Scan.
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. On the top right corner click to Disable All plugins.
  5. On the left side table select Windows : Microsoft Bulletins plugin family.
  6. On the right side table select MS07-062: Vulnerability in DNS Could Allow Spoofing (941672) plugin ID 28184.
  7. Specify the target on the Settings tab and click to Save the scan.
  8. Run the scan.
