CVE [?]: CVE-2020-28948, CVE-2020-28949
CPE [?]: cpe:/o:amazon:linux, p-cpe:/a:amazon:linux:php7-pear

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of php7-pear installed on the remote host is prior to 1.10.12-4.30. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS-2021-1466 advisory.

- Archive_Tar through 1.4.10 allows an unserialization attack because phar: is blocked but PHAR: is not blocked. (CVE-2020-28948)

- Archive_Tar through 1.4.10 has :// filename sanitization only to address phar attacks, and thus any other stream-wrapper attack (such as file:// to overwrite files) can still succeed. (CVE-2020-28949)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update php7-pear' to update your system.
